What is the purpose of a blog?
Blogging for businesses helps rank your website higher in Google SERPs, a.k.a. increases your online visibility. As a business, you rely on consumers to keep buying your services. As a new business, you rely on blogging to help you get to potential consumers and grab their attention. Without blogging, your website would remain invisible, whereas running a blog makes you searchable and competitive.
Getting the word out about you business
Blogs are great for SEO (search engine optimization) purposes. Blogging is beneficial for SEO because it helps with several things that are very important for your ranking. Having a regularly updated blog with high-quality contributions on topics relevant to your audience can dramatically change the performance of your entire site in search engines.
Blogs keep people on your site longer
Google’s top priority is to provide the people searching for specific information with the best user experience.
If someone searches and clicks on the first article but doesn’t find the information useful and immediately returns to the search page, Google will assume that blog was not useful. On the other hand, if someone clicks on an article and stays on the site for a while, Google signals that the site is beneficial.
While Google will never directly say that the time spent on your site is a rating factor, they make other statements that make it clear that they value it. Someone who comes to your site for a blog post (that appears in search results) has more reasons to stay and read the whole thing than someone who ends up on a page with less text or information (i.e., homepage or services page.)
And this is even more true for longer and more complex articles.
